Business Pulse Results: Protecting ID paramount

The majority of respondents in a Memphis Business Journal online survey say they take steps to prevent becoming a victim of ID theft.

92 percent of those who responded to the weekly MBJ survey said they take such steps. 21 percent said they do not.

Several who left comments said they take extra steps to prevent identity theft such as shredding bills and bank statements and being cautious about giving out personal information.

“I was a victim of identity theft a few years ago. I do as much as I can to keep my personal information just that, personal,” one person wrote.

A couple have gone so far as to get insurance to cover the cost of losses associated with identity theft.

“With all the horror stories out there, and the increasing incidents being reported, I’m not willing to risk it,” wrote one person who had the insurance product. “This service is worth the cost just for them to deal with all the aggravation factors of dealing with the problem should it happen. Also allows me to monitor my credit reports easily. I’d rather be safe than sorry.”
