| 7/27/2007 – How not to become a victim of identity theft was the topic of a recent presentation at the Perl Mack Branch Library. Audience members learned from Detective Terry Miles that they are at high risk simply by geography. The Adams Count Sheriff’s detective says Colorado ranks 6th in the nation per capita for identity theft crime.
Detective Miles stressed the importance of protecting your personal financial and identity information. He recommended shredding all financial papers, including credit applications before throwing them away.
The program was a joint venture between the Adams County Sheriff’s Department and the Rangeview Library District. Eleven people attended the presentation wich was offered as part of the library’s “Sleuthing in the Stacks” adult summer reading program. A similiar program wa held at the Brighton Branch as well.
Participants also received “vials of life”, special medicine indentifiers, from Detective Michele Wiggins. Several folks went home with prizes from drawings, including commemorative challenge coins donated by the Sheriff’s Department.
