Five accused in ID theft ring that stole $850,000

ALBANY — An identity theft ring that used bank tellers to steal more than $850,000 from hundreds of customers, including some in Newburgh, has been brought down, state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced Tuesday.

An indictment was unsealed Tuesday in Westchester County, charging five defendants — Tyrone Lee, 28, Nadia Figueroa, 23, Kalika Arline, 29, and Anthony Davis, 29, all of the Bronx, and Venise Cole, 27, of Florida — with grand larceny, identity theft and scheme to defraud.

Officials say Lee was the ringleader; the three women worked as tellers at various banks and collected the personal and financial data of customers; and Davis forged documents that were used to withdraw cash from accounts. One of the banks used was the old Wachovia branch on North Plank Road in Newburgh, where Figueroa had worked as a teller.
