Florida Identity Theft

FLORIDA – State lawmakers are moving to make it a crime to possess information that could be used to commit identity theft. The need for a change came to light after a six year old girl brought 52 debit cards to school for show and tell. Police could not prosecute her mother, because no actual theft had occurred. Lawmakers say it is too easy to steal an identity and not be held accountable. “People are filing their income tax returns and they have been rejected because they said we’ve already paid you and it’s a major scam on people and your identity needs to be protected and we need to do what’s necessary to make sure that this does not continue to happen and Florida does not continue to have this black eye.” Last week a Juvenile Probation Officer for the state was arrested for stealing the identity of the parents of children in trouble with the law.
