Florida man gets three years in tax fraud scheme at sentencing in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS • A Florida man was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison for his role in a tax fraud scheme that employed stolen identities, including identities stolen from the recently dead.

Dwayne Denard Johnson, 34, pleaded guilty in federal court here in August to two counts of aggravated identity theft and admitted helping his wife, Tania Henderson, 28, and other file bogus tax returns using the personal information of others, prosecutors say.

In all, the group sought more than $1.8 million, although half of the refunds were intercepted by the IRS, they said. The scheme involved more than 400 stolen identities from Missouri and elsewhere, officials said.

Five people have been charged in the case.

Henderson, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., was sentenced to 12 years in in July.
