West Palm woman, leader of identity theft ring, given 10-year sentence
A 36-year-old West Palm Beach woman who was the the leader of an identity theft ring has been sentenced to 10 years and one month in prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Monday.
Prosecutors said Jennifer Robinson, 36, organized a scheme to steal the identities of patients at a medical facility in Central Florida. Those identities reportedly were then used to file fraudulent income tax returns in the patients’ names, and to fraudulently obtain credit cards.
Robinson pleaded guilty to one count to commit wire fraud, 11 counts of stealing government monies, 12 counts of aggravated identity theft and one count of unauthorized access device fraud. She was sentenced 121 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.
Co-conspirators Kawana Brown, 35, of West Palm Beach and Eltonya Wiley, 40 and Elton Baker, 29, both of Center Hill in Sumter County, previously pleaded guilty to wire fraud and identity theft charges.
They are scheduled to face sentencing June 13.
To other co-defendants, Antoinette Simmons, 40, of Ocoee, and Josh Brown, 25, of Riverdale, Ga. were sentenced to probation for their roles in the thefts.
