Man sentenced for fraudulent shopping spree at South Florida Apple Stores

A second man who pleaded guilty to taking fake credit cards on a spending spree at three Apple Stores in South Florida was sentenced to federal prison on Friday.

Matthew Francis, 24, was sentenced to a total of two years and ten months in prison for aggravated identity theft and using fake credit cards. He must surrender to begin serving his sentence on Oct. 26.

He and Troy Lemons, 29, both admitted earlier this year that they used counterfeit credit cards to buy the popular electronics and accessories during one day in February. The two started out in the Boca Town Center mall, then drove to the Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale and were finally arrested at the Aventura Mall.

Prosecutors said they bought several thousand dollars worth of iPhones, iPads and related items. Francis was sentenced Friday afternoon in federal court in West Palm Beach. Lemons was previously sentenced to a year and a day in prison.
