We’re Members of NAID. What Does That Mean for You?

You might see and hear a lot about NAID when working with a document destruction company, and while you may not be familiar with what NAID is or what the organization does, it’s actually a crucial part of working with a shredding company. Here’s why you should care about that:

NAID is the international trade association for companies providing information destruction services. While becoming certified through NAID is completely voluntary, NAID audits its members “for mobile and/or plant-based operations in paper or printed media, micromedia, computer hard drive destruction, and/or computer hard drive sanitization.” (via NAID online)

For you, using a NAID AAA-certified provider means you are working with a vendor who has met all of the necessary steps required, under all regulatory guidelines, to protect sensitive data for clients, customers, and patients. In the shredding and document destruction industry, NAID is the only recognized source for security and ethics standards.

Of course, there is a big different between just being a member of NAID and being a member of NAID while also being AAA-certified. Legal Shred is both a member and AAA-certified members of NAID, which means that we can promise to our customers that our service operates in strict accordance with regulatory standards and our compliance is randomly, and routinely evaluated.

Legal Shred has had to meet a list of criteria before earning this certification, including, but not limited to: ensuring our staff have had thorough background investigations prior to hiring, and requiring all paper shredded meets original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications of continuous shred, indefinite length, and 5/8″ cutter width or less.

What’s more, Legal Shred’s own Jason Fredricks has obtained the title of Certified Secure Destruction Specialist, an achievement very few have acquired in this industry. The CSDS Certification consists of over 200 questions in 7 areas of interest and is so extensive that only 75 percent of security professionals who take the exam earn CSDS certification.

If you’re shopping for document destruction vendors to work with, it is absolutely imperative that you choose a NAID AAA-Certified vendor for your document destruction programs.

Legal Shred’s active involvement with NAID gets us the latest information on data destruction best practices, enabling us to give you the best quality of service. By becoming a certified member, we are held to a higher standard of data destruction policies and procedures, so you can rest assured that your data will be securely and completely destroyed.
