9/24/2006 – Police Probe Identity Theft By Patricia Scalici, Staff Writer Sep 24, 2006, 12:01 EDGEWOOD—The Edgewood Police Department is investigating separate incidences involving identity theft and another case for forgery. The seven identity thefts occurred as separate crimes, and are still under investigation. The victim’s ID’s were stolen by different suspects. The forgery investigation has confirmed more than 30 cases. A firm in Houston has confirmed that at least 30 of the checks found are confirmed forgeries. The forgeries were committed by persons who had access to an account, but did not have permission to use the account. Penalties for ID theft can result in up to $10,000 in fines and up to two years in state jail.
