4/19/2007 – SAN FRANCISCO — A computer file server with the addresses and Social Security numbers of at least 3,000 people was stolen from an off-campus office affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco.
College officials say the server, which was taken sometime overnight on March 30th, contained personal information for research subjects in a series of studies on the causes and treatment of various kinds of cancer. As a precaution, UCSF sent letters to about three-thousand people, the majority of them California residents, advising them to take steps to protect themselves from identity theft. |
